Potion

The other night, Noah and Eva concocted a potion.

Eva read the ingredients to make sure it would be good

 They added some spices,

And got some more ingredients,

And sampled to make sure it was good.

A little more spice to make it taste good,

And some honey for sweetness.

I would like to point out that by this time they had basically removed all food from the pantry, and spread an entire box of toothpicks over the floor.  Basically, an evening well spent.

Science Party

We got to attend the coolest 5yo birthday party ever, complete with lab coats and little experiments and a periodic table cake (not pictured)

Eva used acetic acid to polish about 18 pennies, and Noah and Jesse ran around like "mad scientists."

Brilliant!!

Bats

We just went outside after dinner to watch the bats.  I don't have any pictures, but wanted to tell you about it because it's just so cool.  Just after dusk they come zooming high over our yard, just one every few minutes, eating up all the mosquitoes.  We watch the patch of sky between the trees until one swoops by, then with much jumping up and down we follow it until it flies over he house or into the neighbors' trees.

It's just another reason for me to love the fall, because dusk happens before bedtime and we can have this adventure.

Off to see the wizard...

The kids recite lines from and sing songs from the Wizard of Oz basically nonstop. They are usually running around the house while doing so, so it's pretty tough to videotape. Grammy got them to hold still using the bathroom mirror...

Apples! Horses!!

We headed back to Beak and Skiff during our recent visit to Nana and Saba's house

Eva says: cheese!

And look how much bigger they are from last year!  Noah's a few inches taller and Eva's grown in both height and attitude.

Actually, I guess only the kids are bigger.  Sorry, Nana.

Before heading out to the apples, we had a VERY EXCITING experience riding the ponies.  Unfortunately I don't seem to have a picture of Noah but Eva totally rocked the little grey pony.

Wee!  My pony is going round and around and around!

Thank you pony!

Then we were off to the apples.  Serious Noah was very serious about picking.

Also serious about the ladder

The apples were very delicious, even in a little bit of rain

And one more silly picture for the road

Highland Forest

We spent a lovely afternoon at Highland Forest state park when we were in New York State visiting Nana and Saba

Eva was in charge of the map.

In order to be certain of the route, she compared her path to the big map.  I am not sure I can accurately communicate just how much time Eva spent standing still and discussing our path on the map.  It was simultaneously adorable and really really frustrating.

In hindsight, perhaps someone who can read should be in charge of the map.  At any rate, we made it back to the big field at the top of the hill.

We had a quick rest...

And then enjoyed the view.

Man, what a view.  What a beautiful day.  I love New York.

Old School

This past trip to Nana and Saba's house we stopped at a park at the top of a big hill.  Getting there was a bit of an adventure - following Google maps we turned off of the main road onto a small side road.  Which then turned into a gravel road.  Which then turned into a dirt path.  Which then turned into a field.  We kept the faith and kept driving, following Google maps until we came to a big gate.  Which I got out of the car and opened, so we could drive through, into another field.

Somehow, miraculously, we did not get the car stuck in a ditch and eventually found the paved road to the playground. It was an adventure, to say the least.

At the playground, there was an old school merry-go-round.  Noah and Eva had never seen one before (and I haven't seen one in years).

It was a hit. :)

Weeheeeeee!!
