I would like to present Eva's first attempts at batting at a toy...
She gave it a few solid punches before we started recording, just enough for us to pick our jaws up off the floor and pick up the phone.

more chats with the kids
Actually, some of Noah's funniest moments come when I'm really not contributing to the conversation at all...
I expect her to be just as clever as her brother in no time at all.
Scene: coloring on an advertisement for Taylor Rental. Noah points to a floor sander
Rachel: Grammy knows how to use that one
Noah: Yeah. [Points to a party tent]
N: Grammy knows how to use this one
R: I guess so
N: yeah. That's a tent. [pause between each line]
That's a birthday house
Yeah.
Fork in there.
Candle in there
Happy birthday cake
Candles in there!!
Scene: Noah is looking at a picture of R&C in the rainforest in Puerto Rico
Noah: Mommy Daddy in the woods. [Pause b/t each line]
[points to creek] Water down there.
Birds drink it.
Mommy Daddy don't drink it!!
Eva is working on delivering her own stories, and just started cooing yesterday. It still clearly takes a lot of effort!
I expect her to be just as clever as her brother in no time at all.

Entropyliveshere: now with 20% more Eva!
We celebrated Eva's one month birthday yesterday! It is hard for me to believe that she is one month old already, that we've already spent thirty nights getting up every few hours. On the other hand, I am quite sure we have had her forever.
She continues to amaze with her exceptional cuteness and cuddliness, and she is getting stronger every day.
She had her one month doctor's appt today, and was declared perfect in every way. Her stats are:
Weight: 9lbs 9.94oz (63%)
Length: 22 1/4 inches (89%)
Head: 37.2 cm (55%)
We were also instructed to make sure she has 45 minutes of tummy time on the floor every day. Eva is NOT happy about this plan.
So we've been through one month already. I'd say her most exciting accomplishement this month has been starting to smile.
Actually, I'd say her most impressive accomplishments this month also include being born, being healthy, learning to nurse and learning to see. But after all of those things, definitely smiling.
She already smiles at her brother more than anyone else. :)

He has a lot to say.
Recent conversations with Noah:
Scene: Driving home from day care, listening to WGBH
Rachel: Listen Noah, this is a bassoon. Saba plays the bassoon.
Noah: Saba plays 'soon?
..... [listens for a bit]....
Noah: Good job Saba!!
Scene: lunch at the dining room table
Noah: Where is Grammy?
Rachel: Grammy and Grammy Sue are downstairs. They will be back in a minute.
N: [thinks for a minute] They love me!
Scene: Playing with matchbox cars in Noah's room
Noah: [picks up car] Saba driving this car.
Rachel: ok
N: Saba in there. Nana NOT in there.
R: ok
N: [picks up cement mixer] Nana in the truck. Nana driving the truck
R: hahahahahahahah (sorry Nana, we totally believe you would be driving the cement mixer)
Scene: Noah picks up grammy's kindle, which has a screen saver of mark twain
Noah: That's Mr Noodle!
Scene: Eating dinner
Noah: Noah eat the boogers
Rachel: Please don't eat them. I'll get you a tissue and you can put them in there.
N: Noah eat the boogers. [claps hands over head] Yay! Booger Time!!
Rachel & Chad: [struggling mightily to keep a straight face] sigh.

Outside!
It was so beautiful out on Thursday, we had to go outside. Even though there were still a few feet of snow in the backyard.
Noah was undeterred. And, as usual, had a running commentary.
And then he was off.
I was impressed - he fell down a lot and got stuck a few times, but never got upset. He just leaned on his shovel and went on his way, not missing a beat in his narration.
Eva and I, on the other hand, preferred to sit back and watch. Or snooze.

Playdate
We had a lovely playdate at the Olivers' house today. The Noah and his friend Rostam were perpetually in motion.
Only sitting still for food. Pretty stereotypical boys, huh.
One neat thing is that Noah was feeling pretty shy when we first arrived, but after sharing a snack the two of them were cracking each other up and getting along great. It was fun to see. And lasted until naptime, when no toddlers get along great.
The babies (Eva and her friend Alden) were considerably easier to photograph.

Eva's naming
We had the whole family up for Eva's naming ceremony last weekend. She was a trooper, and charmed everyone.

Curly Girl
After the bath, Eva's hair is super curly.
It actually stays pretty curly, even after it dries.
Until we do something crazy like put a hat on her, then it's back to the pixie 'do.
Also, Eva says happy Valentine's day!

Baby Playdate
Eva and her buddy Alden, both 10mo. Please ignore the mommy chatter in the background.
I love watching the two of them play - they interact with each other so well. Shortly before they discovered the screen door Eva picked up a small teddy bear and knee-walked it across the room, then handed it to Alden. They will coo at each other and pat each other on the head or the knee. They will listen to a book together and one of them will turn the pages while the other watches. I think they are both so relieved to get to interact with someone at their own level instead of a dominating big brother. :)

Blanket Time
Noah really likes it when Eva comes down to play on the blanket.
Man. They are cute, huh.

Noah's fire engine
This game went on for about a half hour.
It didn't end until he had moved almost all of his toys from his toybox to the chair, and Daddy and Mommy had to fiercely advocate for bathtime...

Tummy Time
Eva doesn't really like it any more than her brother did
But her diaper does match the blanket, which is a plus.
Even though she complains, she is really quite strong. Today I put her on her tummy and she rolled over onto her back! I'm not sure she could do it again (I'm not sure she did it on purpose), but we were quite impressed. My little gymnast.
